This is what the Tubaphone style tone ring tubes look like after they have been drilled. Each and every one of the drilled holes still needs to be deburred before the ends are welded together.

The ring is clamped into a special fixture that ensures roundness and flatness when is is welded using a special, same metal, electric welding process.
